How Should You measure my load time?

We use GTMetrix. It’s got a free tier, and presents the results in a way that’s easier to understand than other testing tools. It’s modeled using Google’s Core Web Vitals metrics, so you’re not wasting your time optimizing for things that won’t matter.

Speed tests can vary quite a bit from run to run, so we recommend running six before tests and six after tests, then using their averages to calculate the times you use with our calculator. That way, you get a better sense of the typical load speed your users will experience, and the comparison will be more accurate.

What’s a good test result?

If you’re using GTMetrix, your goal should be to pass all three Web Vitals tests (the results will be green). Getting a perfect grade or 100% score doesn’t matter as much, and chasing those numbers could be a waste of time.

Of course, the faster, the better, but as long as you’re passing all of the Web Vitals tests and have a fully loaded time under three seconds, you should be golden.
